An MAO-A inhibitor (Ki = 4.2 µM); selective for MAO-A over MAO-B (Ki = 46 µM); protects against ischemia-induced decreases in frontal cortex, hippocampus, and striatum levels of mAChRs in a rat model of permanent bilateral carotid artery occlusion-induced chronic cerebral hypoperfusion at 15 mg/kg, p.o.; increases survival and brain norepinephrine, dopamine, and 5-HT levels in a gerbil model of bilateral carotid artery ligation-induced cerebral ischemia at 25 mg/kg; prevents scopolamine-induced memory deficits in the passive avoidance test in rats at 30 mg/kg, i.p.; decreases immobility time in the forced swim test in rats
