Erinacine A is a diterpenoid that has been found in H. erinaceum and has anticancer and neuroprotective activities.{55614,72298,72299,72300} It decreases the viability of, and induces cell cycle arrest at the G1 phase and production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in, DLD-1 colorectal cancer cells when used at a concentration of 10 µM.{72298} Erinacine A (1 mM) increases the production of nerve growth factor (NGF) in mouse astroglial cells.{55614} In vivo, erinacine A (1 mg/kg, i.p.) increases the time spent on the rod in a rotarod test in a mouse model of MPTP-induced Parkinson’s disease.{72299} Oral administration of erinacine A (4 mg/kg) decreases infarct volume in a mouse model of ischemic brain injury induced by transient right common carotid artery occlusion.{72300}
