Integrin beta6 (ITGB6) is a transmembrane receptor subunit that pairs exclusively with integrin alphav to form the alphavbeta6 integrin heterodimer. This receptor is normally expressed at low levels in healthy adult tissues but is upregulated during tissue injury, inflammation, and epithelial remodeling. Integrin beta6 plays a key role in activating transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta) and mediating cell adhesion, migration, and signaling. Its overexpression has been associated with fibrosis and various epithelial cancers, where it contributes to tumor invasion and poor prognosis.
