IFN-γ主要由T 细胞和NK 细胞产生，在调节免疫应答、抗增殖活性等方面的作用远强于IFN-α/β，而抗病毒活性低于IFN-α/β。IFN-γ又称为免疫干扰素（immuneinterferon）、Ⅱ型干扰素（interferonⅡ）、T 细胞替代因子（T cellreplacing factor，TRF）和巨噬细胞活化因子（macrophage activatingfactor，MAF）。IFN-γ抗病毒能力较弱，但抗细胞增殖的作用和免疫调节的作用较强。
