The amino acid stretch (named iCope) was independently predicted as a region of major antigenic potential in silico (Ong et al. Comp. Struct. Biotechnol. J. 2021). The respective peptide sequence is located in the spike glycopeptide fusion domain and is likely to give rise to one or more universal immunodominant coronavirus-specific peptide epitopes across a range of presenting HLA-alleles.
