It inhibits both leukocyte activation pathways at multiple sites and the release of inflammatory mediators from human macrophages, basophils, and pulmonary mast cells. Auranofin has been shown to inhibit human neutrophil 5-lipoxygenase, thioredoxin reductase (TrxR), IκB kinase (IKK).
