This antibody stains the extracellular domain of CD73. The monoclonal antibody 4G4 recognizes both membrane bound and soluble human CD73, also known as ecto-5’-nucleotidase. The monoclonal antibody 4G4 causes a reduction in CD73 expression on lymphocytes, reduces enzyme activity, and inhibits the binding of lymphocytes to endothelial cells.

The protein encoded by this gene is a plasma membrane protein that catalyzes the conversion of extracellular nucleotides to membrane-permeable nucleosides. The encoded protein is used as a determinant of lymphocyte differentiation. Defects in this gene can lead to the calcification of joints and arteries.
