Naturally occurring heptose in avocado fruit. Hexokinase (HK) and glucokinase inhibitor in diverse organisms by competing with D-glucose. Useful agent for immunometabolism research. Blocks glucose phosphorylation by blocking hexokinase. Prevents the conversion of glucose to glucose-6-phosphate that can mediate the activation of the carbohydrate response element binding protein and consequently inhibiting the rate limiting step of glycolysis. Blocks glucose oxidation and glucose-mediated insulin release in pancreatic islet cells.
