Cayman’s Urea Nitrogen/BUN Colorimetric Assay Kit provides a colorimetric method for measuring urea nitrogen in plasma, serum, urine, and other sample matrices. In the assay, urease catalyzes the hydrolysis of urea to ammonia and CO2. The ammonia generated is then utilized in a second enzymatic reaction, resulting in the reduction of a tetrazolium salt substrate to a highly colored formazan, which absorbs at 450 nm. The amount of formazan produced is proportional to the amount of urea in the sample.This assay has a range of 0.0125-0.20 mg/dl of urea nitrogen and a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.006 mg/dl urea nitrogen.
