1alpha-Hydroxyvitamin D3 is a synthetic analog of vitamin D used extensively in biomedical research and clinical studies for its potent calcium-regulating properties. Ths prodrug is rapidly converted by cytochrome P450 isoforms in the liver to the active metabolite 1alpha,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3, bypassing the need for renal 1alpha-hydroxylation. This makes it particularly valuable in studying calcium and phosphate homeostasis, bone metabolism, and the treatment of disorders like osteoporosis and chronic kidney disease-related mineral and bone disorder (CKD-MBD). 1alpha-Hydroxyvitamin D3 is a non-selective VDR activator and used to explore vitamin D receptor (VDR) signaling, immune modulation, and potential anti-inflammatory and anti-proliferative effects across various cell types.
